In their study of 1,212 participants aged 50 and older who had knee osteoarthritis , those who walked for exercise had a 40 % decreased chance of new frequent knee pain compared to non-walkers . The researchers note that evidence suggests walking can help slow down the worsening of damage inside the knee joints too .
